Favorite Songs by Favorite Artists: Randy Travis
Posted by Leeann Ward under Favorite Songs by Favorite Artists
Randy Travis
Randy Travis has one of the most distinctive voices in country music. Moreover, his unbridled twang is credited for helping to pull country music out of the doldrums of the Urban Cowboy phase that plagued the eighties.
I know I have posted this before but I can't find where I posted it so here I go again. This will be ending soon and they will post the results in the Sept. 22 issues so please vote.

With a career in Country Music spanning 25 years that includes 22 #1 hits, Randy Travis returns after an eight year hiatus from Country Music with a new album that has Country fans crooning. I had the pleasure of speaking with Randy on his tour bus before his stadium show at CMA Music Fest last month.

Answering Jerusalem’s Cry
Can you hear Jerusalem’s cry
Can you see the storm on the rise
Look around you can’t deny
This is the hour of heaven’s time
—from “Jerusalem’s Cry” by Randy Travis
Growing up, God and His people, the Jews—were the farthest thing from Randy Travis’ mind.
“I was far away from the word of God,” he explained in an interview.
“I went to church just a little bit as a kid, but as they would say in the South, it didn’t take.”
JANESVILLE — Many in the audience Friday night at the Rock County 4-H Fair thought of Randy Travis as a friend rather than as an entertainer.
“This is the third time we’ve seen Randy. He’s my friend,” Gloria Dutcher of Janesville said of herself and her friend, Susan Peterson, another Janesville resident.
“I met him backstage, and I escorted him at Country Thunder,” Dutcher said of an experience at least eight years ago.
